MammaPrint in 150 words
The MammaPrint laboratory service from Agendia enables
physicians to determine the risk of tumor recurrence in early stage breast
cancer patients. MammaPrint enables a more accurate prognosis – providing
information that play a critical role in planning the optimal therapeutic
regime for an individual.Cleared by the FDA and European authorities, this in vitro diagnostic test analyses the
expression profile of 70 pre-selected genes in a sample of a women´s
surgically-removed breast cancer tumor and then uses a specific formula or
algorithm to produce a score that determines whether the patient is deemed low
risk or high risk for spread of the cancer to another site.
By leveraging the benefits of gene expression
profiling, MammaPrint brings the physician one step closer to truly
personalized medicine. The result may help a doctor in planning treatment and
appropriate follow-up for a patient when used with other clinical information
and laboratory tests.
